1 Bella Solid Layer Cake Natural
1 yard brown for setting triangles
1 1/2 yards gold for outer border
5/8 yard woven for binding
5 yards backing

From 41 of the prints in the layer cake cut the following (do NOT cut into strips cut each separately):

Cut 5 ⅞ inch square in half diagonally once.

From 41 of the squares in the natural layer cake cut the following (do NOT cut into strips cut each separately):
3—3 inch squares
4—3 inch squares
2—3 ¼ inch squares

Cut 2—3 ¼ inch squares in half diagonally once.

Piece together half square triangles using the 3 inch squares.  For a total of 6.
(place squares face to face…draw a line diagonally and stitch a ¼ inch seam allowance and cut along the drawn line)

….these pictures would NOT load…

Piece together blocks as follows for a total of 41 blocks.

From the setting triangle fabric cut 2—15 ½ x 44 inch strips cut into 4—15 ½ inch squares cut in half diagonally twice (setting triangles) and 2—8 inch squares cut in half diagonally once (corners).

Layout quilt as in picture 5 x 5.

Cut 8—6 x 44 inch strips for wide border.  Piece together 4—6 x 88 inch strips then piece to sides first then top and bottom.

Cut backing in half and piece together to measure 86 x 90 inches.

Layer quilt with backing and batting and quilt as desired.  I machine quilted Clover Cake with a variagated thread in an over-lapping free-style meander.
***I machine quilt on a Juki, so i do not have a stitch regulator which makes some stitches longer.***

From the binding print cut 8—2 ¼ inch strips.

Piece strips end to end.

Stitch strips down.

Roll strip around edge and stitch binding down–or hand stitch down on back.

Eydie A’s Jelly Quilt

Mom and I are so excited to bring you our 2nd recipe for Moda Bake Shop! This quilt “Eydie A’s” is designed and named in Grandpa’s (mom’s dad) memory. This lovely quilt uses a jelly roll and both a dark and a light print to set off the scrappy blocks. It is made using Blueberry Crumb Cake by Blackbird Designs…the perfect line for Moda Bake Shop.

Please stop over at our blog and say hi!
enjoy!

1 jelly roll Blueberry Crumb Cake by Blackbird Designs
2 5/8 yards tan sprig on cream for background triangles
3 2/3 yards cream flower on blue for sashing, border, and binding
94 x 108 inches batting
7 1/2 yards backing

Using the Jelly Roll strips piece together in sets of 2 for a total of 20 sets. Do not press yet.

Then piece the sets of 2 together for 10 sets of 4. Now press each strip set so that the seams are going to same way (all to the left or all to the right).

Layout and cross cut them into 2 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch combination strips for a total of 168 combination strips.

Piece combination strips together into groups of 2. Be sure that seams are pressed opposite of each other when pairing them up.

Piece groups of 2 together for a total of 42–16-patch blocks. Set these aside.

Cut 14–6 3/4 inch strips from the background.

Cut these strips into 84–6 3/4 inch squares. Cut each square in half diagonally once.

Piece the triangles to the blocks.

Piece the triangles opposite and press.

Then piece the remaining triangles. Press.

From the blue… cut 24–3 inch strips for sashing. Using 12 strips, cut 35–3 x 11 3/4 inch sashing strips.
Piece the remaining strips into 6–3 x 86 inch strips

Cut 9–4 inch strips for the borders from the blue and cut 1 strip in half. Piece together 2–4 x 86 inch strips for top and bottom borders. Piece together 2–4 x 106 inch strips for side borders

Cut 9–2 1/4 inch strips for binding from the blue and piece strips end to end.

Layout the quilt as follows: 6 x 7 layout with 86 inch strips running from side to side and the 11 3/4 inch strips running up and down between blocks. Piece together rows of blocks then piece rows to blue sashing strip. Piece borders to top and bottom first then sides.

Layer quilt with backing and batting; quilt as desired. I quilted Eydie A’s with a freestyle overlapping meander with white thread.

Trim quilt and stitch binding down.
Then roll the binding over and top stitch binding down (or hand stitch binding down on back).

1 jelly roll Together by Brannock and Patek
1 charm pack Together by Brannock and Patek
2 7/8 yards background print from Together by Brannock and Patek
4 1/2 yard backing
78 x 90 inches batting

Cut the following from the jelly roll:
42–2 1/2 x 5 inch rectangles
84–2 1/2 x 7 inch rectangles
42–2 1/2 x 9 inch rectangles

It works best to cut from each strip 1–5 inch, 2–7 inch, and 1–9 inch. Then cut remaining rectangles from leftovers of each strip…make sure to cut from each strip to achieve a good mix of prints.
Cut the following from the background:
8–9 inch strips into 30–9 inch squares and 2–7 inch squares (cut the 7 inch squares in half diagonally once…these are the corners)
Cut the following from the background:
2–14 inch strips into 6–14 inch squares (cut each 14 inch square in half diagonally twice…these are the setting triangles)
Layout block as follows using:
1 charm square
1–2 1/2 x 5 inch rectangle
2–2 1/2 x 7 inch rectangles
1–2 1/2 x 9 inch rectangle
Piece the 5 inch rectangle first. Press.
Piece the 7 inch rectangle second. Press.
Piece 2nd 7 inch rectangle. Press.
Piece the 9 inch rectangle last. Press.
Repeat for 42 blocks.
Layout blocks as follows…6 across and 7 down…place the setting squares, setting triangles, and corner triangles. Piece diagonal rows.
Once quilt is pieced; layer with batting and backing and quilt as desired.
I quilted it with a variegated green thread by Signature in a free style overlapping meander.
Piece together all remaining jelly roll strips and bind as desired. We stitched down the binding by machine.

Pretty-fied Sheet Set

Hi…I’m April (the words behind Mickey Zimmer and Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe), and we are delighted to bring you a tutorial on how to Pretty-fy your sheets…using a charm pack and a little bit of yardage. Hop on over to our blog and see what’s new… Happy quilting! mickey & april {sweetwater cotton shoppe}
1 charm pack of Strawberry Fields
1/4 yd gray dot
1 yard strawberry print
1 queen size sheet set [***sheets may vary in size…change pattern accordingly]

Use a 1/4 inch seam allowance unless stated otherwise.

On each pillowcase and flat sheet, cut 5 1/2 inches off the cuff end.

Now open the seams of each pillowcase using a seam ripper.

From the strawberry print cut 4–9 x 42 inch strips

From the dot cut 4–1 1/2 x 42 inch strips.

Sew 2 strips of the strawberry print end to end. Do this with 2 dot strips also.

Press these seams open.

Press all dot strips in half.

Measure the flat sheet raw edge. Be sure that the long dot strip is that length plus 1 inch. Fold in each end of the dot strip 1/2 inch and press.

Now break open that charm pack…(admire the colors for a moment)…luscious aren’t they?!

Separate them into piles…2 piles of 10 squares and 1 pile of 20 squares.

Sew each pile of charms together.

Press these open also.

Sew the dot piping to charm strip…be sure to sew long piping to long charm strip and short piping to short charm strip. Repeat for 2 short and 1 long. When piecing the long piping strip be sure to center dot leaving 1/2 inch at each end.

Then sew strawberry strip to other side of charm strip.

Press seam toward strawberry print.

Lay raw 40 inch edge of pillowcase so right side is toward the charms and center it then stitch down…there will be excess at each end. When stitching it down make sure sewing line is to the left of stitch on piping. Repeat with other pillowcase.

***Flat Sheet…lay so that ends match up with dot ends…stitch down. Set aside for now.

This part is tricky…layout the pillowcase then roll up the case.

And bring the strawberry print over and lay it on top lining up the seam.

Pin the layers together.

Sew layer together using a 3/8 inch seam allowance.

Pull the case out of one end…

Press.

Trim each side so that it is even with the side of the case.

Fold pillowcase so that right sides are out and starting at the open end line up charms and sew.

Turn pillowcase inside out and stitch 3/8 inch seam…this will finish off the edge.

Repeat with end. First stitch end with wrong sides together.

Turn inside out and stitch 3/8 inch seam allowance to finish edge.

Viola! 1 pillowcase finished…repeat with second…

To finish the flat sheet…lay it out like the pillowcases and roll the sheet and bring the strawberries over and lay on the seam.

Pin this seam. Be sure each end looks like below. Stitch layers together.

Fold in each end so that it lines up with sheet and dot.

Stitch along edge.

Press.

1 Pretty-fied Sheet Set

2 Pretty-fied Pillowcases

1 Pretty-fied Flat Sheet

1 Fitted Sheet

Mom has put together 2 sets of these beauties…Strawberry Fields in front and Buttercup charms, Breakfast at Tiffany’s dot and whimsy piping. Perfect for a wedding gift…or use juvenile prints for a child’s room.
